Empowering Women to Empower Themselves

www.womeninbusiness.org.za

Women In Business (WIB) is a voluntary non-profit organisation that was formed on the 1st June 2005, at a meeting in Nottingham Road in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. The uMgungundlovu District Municipalities mandate for the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Commerce, was to facilitate the setting up of local business fora within the UDM's area of governance, was the catalyst in the formalisation of WIB.

Reach for a Dream

"Helping children believe in the power of their dreams" is the objective of the Reach For A Dream Foundation.

Reach For A Dream is a non-profit organisation that fulfils the dreams of children of all income groups and of any race, colour or creed between the ages of 3 and 18 years who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness by a doctor. We do not refer to our children as 'terminally ill' or 'dying'. The phrase 'life-threatening' is used at all times because so many of our children do survive their illnesses.

The Foundation fulfils on average 3 individual dreams every day and nationally reaches more than 6300 children per year through group outings such as weekend camps, our Captain Courage programme for boys and Queen For A Day for the girls.

The first dream was the initiative of the founder of the Foundation, Owen Parnell, and began as a community project for the Randburg Rotary Club in Johannesburg. Reach For A Dream was born on the 7th of July 1988, when JC Steinman's dream to ride on a pony and a motorcycle for his birthday came true.

Since that day the dreams received have been as diverse as the imagination of each child. The Foundation has fulfilled dreams to meet former President Nelson Mandela, sport heroes and dreams to stand beside the South African rugby team to sing the national anthem. These are among many of the dreams that Reach For A Dream receives on a daily basis.

We would like to bring more hope and encouragement to families and their children that tomorrow is worth fighting for and that smiles can still be a part of their lives today.

If you are able to assist Reach For A Dream KZN financially, through either donations, event sponsorship, dream sponsorship, bequests, or any other assistance, please call Kerry on 031 566 2220 or e-mail kerry@reachforadream.org.za

If you know a child who may be eligible for a dream, or are able to volunteer, please contact Norma at Reach For A Dream KZN on 031 566 2220, or e-mail norma@reachforadream.org.za
