BWA Mentee/ Mentor Program 2011

Thank you for a very informative session on the BWA mentorship programme. Yvonne Finch is clearly respected in the industry and I am looking forward to the being part of the programme.

I found the presentation to be very concise and informative. It really covered all the aspects of the programme and I was happy that all of my concerns were addressed. I particularly like the idea that if I, as a mentee, am unhappy with anything, I can speak to Yvonne about this. The programme ensures mutual respect between parties as the one has to obtain permission form the other prior to speaking to Yvonne. The reporting process is so very important as is the fact that both mentees and mentors may question any aspect of the report that we do not agree with.

Until the presentation I was of the opinion that the programme is mainly focused on benefiting the mentee. I am pleased to now know that the relationship has to be mutually beneficial. It is important as mentee to know that I will be making a difference as well!

My only recommendation is that mentees and mentors set up their 6 meetings over the nine month period right at the outset. All of us are busy individuals and diaries are filled and changed at short notice. It may have also been a good idea to have a past mentee there to speak about her experience in the programme.

I look forward to being part of what I think will be a truly uplifting nine months for me!
