Sowing Love and Hope into Young Hearts
Imagine that living in the same city as you is a four year old boy who has been abandoned by his parents and sleeps by himself in a wheelbarrow. Or that a 15 year old girl walks over Ou Kaapse Weg each day to get to school so that she might in future provide a better life for her siblings.
Well, you need not imagine. These are the stories of real children living in the impoverished Westlake community in Cape Town, and sadly, they are not alone.
Feeling forgotten, the children of Westlake needed a hero, and in a true expression of compassion and kindness local businessman Martin Oosthuizen heeded their call.
Just like you, no doubt, Mr Oosthuizen was shocked by their harsh reality and decided to take action by setting up the Orphan Care Foundation, which currently cares for about 60 orphaned and vulnerable children in the area.
Its mission is to sow love, hope and purpose into their lives. It is helping them to once again believe they are not alone and the world has not neglected them. Most of all, however, it is giving them a family.
