Call to assist in Winning in the Workplace

- Building Our Future Business Leaders -

For the past thirteen years the Durban branch of the Businesswomen’s Association has presented a workshop on Women’s Day, 9 August for approximately 300 female grade 12 learners from various schools. The workshop provides the “businesswomen of tomorrow” with the necessary skills to make a success of their future entrance into the business world. This project is the largest corporate citizenship project of the BWA in Durban and is sponsored in its entirety.

This year’s event is titled “Skills for success, building our future leaders”. The learners are requested to write an essay, prior to attending the workshop, which gets marked during the course of the day by 7 impartial academics.

This year’s venue will be the Graduate School of Business, UKZN’s Westville campus. The girls are then exposed to a morning of talks ranging from self motivation to managing finances and from challenges facing school leavers to how to prepare a CV and making informed career choices. It is also an opportunity for the girls to be inspired by key women in business who have achieved success.

The day concludes with the top 10 writers of the essay competition being announced. In the past, the winners have taken home computers, bursaries, cell phones and books to name a few prizes.

Each girl receives a ‘memory bag’ to commemorate the day, which contains small gifts such as stationery, consumer goods, books and accessories. Spot prizes are awarded at various stages throughout the day on the completion and participation of certain exercises. These prizes have included travel vouchers, cell phones, personal care hampers, food hampers, books and leather folders. To see the joy and excitement on the girls’ faces is priceless!

As the event is fully sponsored, sponsorship is required for all aspects including the venue, food, transportation, books, memory bags, essay prizes and spot prizes. All of the sponsored items may have corporate insignia, thus ensuring that the sponsoring company receives recognition. Companies can also pay for services directly, benefiting from tax and other incentives.

The BWA in Durban has relied on the generosity of sponsors in the past to ensure that this event is a success and to ensure the success of this year’s WIWP 2011 project the BWA counts on your support.
