Meet Businesswoman of the Year

10 February 2005
Regent Hotel

The development of rural women in a key area that Futhi Mtoba, the chairman designate at Deloitte and South Africa's Businesswoman of the Year, will concentrate on since winning the title.

Futhi Mtoba believes that the obstacles that often face rural women are too much to bear. "Most of them are often single mothers, not by choice but by the structural design of our economy. Her main focus from day to day is just to find the next meal to feed herself and her children."

Futhi Mtoba believes an enabling environment to help empower and uplift rural women should be put in place. "Appropriate measures should be put in place where these women can be trained, educated and not discriminated against because of where they come from, but be given opportunities to better themselves and therefore better their lives and those around them"

What is needed more than anything by rural women is capital, so that they can be entrepreneurs in their own right.

What Futhi Mtoba represents for the women of South Africa is courage, determination and passion. It is fitting that the BWA has recognised her potential to change and have a positive impact on the lives or rural women.
