BWA ANNUAL GOLF DAY

18 May 2007
Gonubie Golf Course

The invite said 'hit and miss'- well, this was true to form. There were plenty of ladies with sore stomachs from laughing! Michelle de Vries and her assistant Marius did an excellent job of giving the "Business Bunnies" coaching lessons and having them play 3 holes of golf.

The Golfers went off and played nine holes of golf- which was won by Millie Zim with 21 points. She is our Border Captain and plays off a 4 handicap- well done Millie. Mary Wrench our past Chair came 2nd, Mickey Mama and Maureen Muhlenberg a tie 3rd, our own coordinator- Marcine Cooper 4th and Thandi Panyana and Sina Hina came tie 5th.

The "Business Bunnies" took the prizes for the most "freshies", longest hit, most talkative Bunny and etc.

Hemingway's Casino sponsored all our winners including non-golfers with "very good" gambling vouchers. We thank BCX, Body Care Beauty Salon and Ric's cater hire for their prizes which all contributed towards making the event a successful

Grow with BWA

17 April 2007
Mdantsane Sun Hotel

As part of the BWA East London campaign to reach out to all women in this region, ensuring that they are aware of BWA, it was decided to host a function in Mdantsane for the first time. Together with CKI FM this function was a wonderful success. We had ladies from Bisho, King Williamstown and Mdantsane attending. The Mdantsane Sun Hotel excelled themselves with wonderful African cuisine. The highlight of the day for some ladies was the taxi drive from Vincent to Mdantsane- this drive proved to be exiting together with the good taxi music thumping away!

An excellent presentation as to why you should belong to BWA was presented by Bea Hackula our Chairlady. Mary Wrench from the financial planners presented the P3 personal protection plan.

Nandipha Vena, Regional Marketing Manager at IDC informed the ladies on how to access finance through the IDC, which was most informative as we often do not know where to start when finance is required to start a new venture.

We thank Harvey Travel for the travel discount vouchers handed out to all the ladies, the Financial Planners for their free consultation vouchers, Transformation Africa for the pens, AMC cookware for the lucky draws and Murumbi Roses for the beautiful roses handed over the guest speakers.

Game Plan 2010- By Gary Bailey

8 March 2007
Buffalo Park

Well-known media presenter, soccer legend of Man United and Kaiser Chiefs, England and South Africa, Gary has been involved at World Cups as player, commentator, analyst and was ambassador on the 2006 bid committee with Danny Jordaan and the team. Using multimedia and an edu-taining style, we were not presented with the facts, which inspired and motivate the very well supported BWA function at Buffalo Park in East London, leaving the business people with a powerful insight of the five years that lie ahead.

There are so many services and products needed to make this world cup a great success, and not just the world cup itself, but the Confederations cup the year before (top 8 teams in the world) and a host of FIFA and other events which will litter the path to 2010. Besides the services and products required, there are opportunities to network with other companies abroad and huge Human Resource possibilities - all of this, starting right NOW.

Firstly, there will be up to 300 000 visitors to South Africa during the 6 weeks of the world cup, that's more than 10 times the 95 rugby world cup and over 15 times that of the recent cricket world cup. SA has only 35 000 beds, 55 000 are needed!

Did you know, for example, that many restaurants and pubs went out of business in Korea in 2002? Do you know why? Did you know that most countries that have hosted a World Cup or Olympics have had a 2% or more GDP spike 2 years ahead of the games, and a 1% or more drops below their average for the 2 years after the games? Can we avoid this? Through the ongoing and extensive research, we are finding answers for these and other questions, and are excellently placed to assist companies in every industry to know how to make the decision about getting a game plan for 2010.

This world cup will impact on virtually every person and every company, and many services will be in demand such as knowledge of languages (36 teams competing in World cup), hospitality, food, waiters, security, medical, legal, communications, media, IT, insurance just to name a few.
