ECSECC BUSINESS BREAKFAST - INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES 23 NOVEMBER 2010

This event was sponsored by ECSECC and attended by 72 business people from the east London Area. The aim of this event was to give our guests and members an overview of the economic standing of the Eastern Cape. The Honourable MEC Mcebisi Jonas, Minister of DEDEA, and Nthabiseng Moleko, LED project manager were our guest speakers. Judging by the audience, which was 50/50 male and female, people were hungry to hear what is going on in the Eastern Cape. This is said to become an annual partnership to keep our members informed about any developments in the region. Our marketing strategy is to do a power point presentation, with pictures of past events, at the beginning of each business breakfast, giving an overview of the BWA. This has worked very well and is now a permanent part of our agenda.

BWA End of Year Function - 07 December 2010

Our last function for the year 2010, was ‘SHOWSTOPPERS’ at the Alexander Playhouse, which saw the BWA booking out the whole theatre on the opening night of this light hearted musical at a discounted rate, for which we sold tickets at a profit. This event was well attended and was enjoyed by all. It was great to end off such a challenging year in light and good spirits. There were 108 guests at this event.

NETWORKING & NEW MEMBER INDUCTIONS

Our networking functions are still by far very popular and well supported by members and non-members. We have started planting the seed that the networking events will in future only be for our members exclusively, especially since the number of members has started exceeding the number of non-members as can be seen from the above table. The other option would be to allow the non-members to attend at a premium to generate some income. Since we had the membership drive from beginning October, many new members had to be inducted, which we couldn’t do all at once. The networking functions over the next couple of months will be used to induct those new members. The Harry’s Group is still continuing their support of the BWA by printing membership certificates at no cost which we give out at our new member’s induction events. Manisha and Bonnie from our PR portfolio are also our photographers at all our events.

Business Breakfasts 22 March 2011 - East London & 23 March 2011 - Mthatha

We have had two business breakfasts so far for this year, which was sponsored by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. Our speaker, Mr Takalani Nyelisani from the JSE in Johannesburg was very entertaining and really broke down the JSE in simple to understand everyday language. He went through the Share Guide page in the local newspaper to further educate the audience. This session was very informative indeed and was attended by both men and women. We took the great “trek” to Mthatha the next day to present this topic to our Mthatha members. This breakfast was free to our BWA members on insistence by the JSE and R75.00 for non-members. We didn’t generate the revenue that we would have wished, especially in light of the JSE unexpectedly wanting our members to attend free of charge. This, however, was a great value add for our members. The attendance at the East London wasn’t great either, because of the public holiday the day before.

Sanlam Dinner "A MAN IS NOT A RETIREMENT PLAN" - 25 March 2011

The Sanlam Dinner further educated our members on sound financial planning and the value of independence and not relying on one’s spouse as a retirement plan. This was a very laid-back evening, very enjoyable, with the “Turkish Delight” belly dancers entertaining us for the evening at no cost. The audience had to participate and be workshoped on how to properly shake those bellies. Much fun and laughter was had.
