Spring Breakfast Celebration

On the morning of 15 October 2009 forty ladies attended a lovely BWA breakfast at the up-market CoC0 C Restaurant at the Bloemfontein Waterfront.
The purpose of the get-together was to network, but also to bring presents for the newly established Talitha Cumi Baby House for abandoned babies in Bloemfontein.
The ladies were all requested to wear hats to celebrate the coming of spring and the participants created a picture of colorful butterflies enjoying a delicious breakfast based on a theme of chocolate whilst Ntsiki-Alah Yen provided entertainment.
The main item on the program was a talk by Vicki Fourie, Miss Deaf South Africa. Listening to Vicky was an enriching experience. She shared the challenges she faced and still faces in learning to function fully in a “hearing world” and the important role played by her family in ensuring that she can use the talents God gave her to be of value to others who are deaf.
The breakfast session concluded with interactive networking and sharing of information amongst those who attended.
Diversity Management

South Africa is a country with diverse cultures, languages and customs. These differences need to be recognized and dealt with in the workplace to assist in creating an effective organization culture. The showcase dealt with typical differences that could result in misunderstandings, lack of commitment and potential conflict. Guidelines were given to assist in planning, structuring and dealing with a diverse workforce.
Understanding Boundaries

This showcase dealt with the importance of an individual's perception of the expectations, roles and responsibilities as person, as family member, as employee and in meeting social demands. It is important to develop and ensure a balance is maintained in meeting multiple role demands because of possible health related implications.
BWA Workshop

The theme of the workshop was, Getting to know your self and the “personality” of "your' Organization.
This one-day practical workshop focused on assisting participants to identify their own behavioural preferences and to identify the dynamics of their organizations as they perceive it.
Discussions focused on possible implications of behavioural and perceptual differences in how individuals experience their "world" and “how they experience and relate to how things are done” in their organizations. Discussions dealt with individual similarities and differences on issues like leadership, planning, decision making, communication, conflict and team functioning.
The workshop ran from 8:00am - 4:30pm.
Managing your time and yourself

The theme was that 'Time ticks by, and that’s beyond our control'. Our ability to “manage” time depends on how we structure our lives in the time given.
A very interactive and well attended session was presented by Jonathan Jensen deputy manager at Damelin Bloemfontein.
Eleven guests who attended the presentation had an opportunity to introduce themselves and business cards were exchanged.
Creating Your Dream and Living Your Passion

Rosaline Sebolao, the Regional Business Achievers Award Winner in the Social category, was the presenter. She shared her journey on getting to live her passion.
The thirteen guests who attended had an opportunity to introduce themselves and business cards were exchanged. This showcase was so interactive, that three attendees voluntarily also shared their experiences of living their dreams. It proved to be a really inspirational showcase!
Regional Business Achievers Awards

Venue: Casino in Bloemfontein
The region had a most successful Regional Business Achievers Award function held at the Casino in Bloemfontein on 29 May, 2009.
Eight nominated candidates who had been judged by a team of five judges were selected for the Categories of Start-Up/ Emerging Entrepreneur, Social Entrepreneur, Entrepreneur and Corporate. The eight candidates and the nature of their business were presented at the gala dinner and the four chosen winners were acknowledged.
All of these candidates enjoyed very good exposure in the local newspapers.
This event was such a success that many of those present did not want to leave but continued to network long after the party had ended and the “ kitchen” had already closed. There were 160 guests and a profit of R11 000 was made.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional Intelligence that has become a very popular concept since the late 1990's is accepted as reflecting capabilities and skills that individuals possess and that influence their ability to cope with environmental demands.
The focus is on understanding emotions that influence perceptions and actions and managing emotions expressed by self and others.
The showcase assisted in assessing and interpreting own emotional strengths and possible areas for development and becoming aware of individual differences that could result in misunderstandings and potential conflict.
Financial Planning Workshop

Speakers were Willem Basson, Head Marketing Old Mutual & Erna Kramer, Nedbank Credit Risk Manager and Erna Cramer who has been part of the Nedbank group for almost 20 years, with vast experience in Banking. The Workshop focused on:
- Why must we have a budget?
- Budget versus Growth.
- Can you trust your budget?
- Do you have an "expensive" budget, and is it possible to change it?
- Easy steps to get back into your budget.
Female Executive Intelligence
