Executive Director: Social Policy

  1. Social Policy

Responsible for the management of social policy matters within BUSA both on a proactive and reactive basis. This includes facilitating interaction with Government and other social partners at the level of advocacy and policy formulation.

Influencing pending legislation, commenting on proposed legislation and providing advice, where appropriate on the implementation of existing legislation.

Facilitating interaction with appropriate national and international institutions linked to social policy matters, including various embassies.

Facilitate the obtaining of BUSA mandates on social policy related matters where necessary.

Facilitating/conducting research into identified social policy matters.

  1. BUSA Social Policy Standing Committee (Socpol)

Manage the functioning of Socpol in an efficient and effective manner having due regard to transformation.

  1. BUSA Sub-Committee on Education and Training (SCET)

Manage the SCET ensuring input into national institutions and initiatives, e.g. the National Skills Authority and the Human Resource Development Council.

  1. BUSA anti – corruption working group (BACWG)

Manage the BACWG ensuring input into relevant institutions and initiatives, including representation at the national anti – corruption forum.

  1. NEDLAC

Participate as a member on the NEDLAC Labour Market Chamber and its task teams and manage the BUSA team’s participation and positions at NEDLAC.

To ensure input/participation where necessary, at other NEDLAC structures including Manco, Exco and the NEDLAC summit. 
To adhere to the BUSA protocol for participation at NEDLAC.

  1. BUSA communication

To ensure reporting on social policy in the BUSA annual report, monthly newsletters and the website. To assist in writing responses on social policy issues for the media.

  1. Business Parliamentary Office (BPO)

To ensure ongoing liaison with the BPO in order to keep abreast of social policy issues requiring written and verbal submissions to parliamentary portfolio committees.

  1. Project management

To ensure that all projects under social policy are managed and executed in accordance with the MOU’s / contracts / terms of reference.

  1. Staff Management

To ensure that staff under social policy is managed in accordance with sound labour relations, taking into account staff development initiatives.

  1. BUSA structures

As a BUSA Executive you will be required to sit at certain executive structures at BUSA, e.g. Manco and Council and participate in the BUSA strategy sessions. You will also be required to participate at relevant meetings during your course of employment at BUSA in your executive role.
